your dataset won’t let me thrive / your dataset must die (2021)
About this work
your dataset won’t let me thrive / your dataset must die are a pair of video essays that seek to counter the mythologies surrounding artificial intelligence datasets and algorithms. The works engage in a speculative comparative study of the works of the Black Beat poet Bob Kaufman and the Dalit poet Siddalingaiah, intersecting with datasets that make up large language models. Visual elements include generic ‘brown’ faces produced by a StyleGAN artificial image generator, video textures from creative programming, and text taken from works by the two poets, interacting with multiple variations of the GPT-2 artificial intelligence language model.
