In this work, Iványi uses handwriting as a way to examine what happens to our bodies when they are extended into the realm of the digital. Language is learned through the body, through the specific movements of handwriting where we learn to associate the shapes of letters and words with their sound and meaning. Typing is a completely different way of engaging the body in the act of writing. The two are not interchangeable. Iványi traces handwritten letters with a handheld scanner and combines each letter of the phrase “for the love of handwriting” into one image. This method shows the different outcomes of the same gesture.
