Marina Polidoro

Postpartumgraphia  (2016-22)

About this work

Postpartumgraphia was developed from observing the fall of hair strands forming lines on the tiled bathroom floor. Besides the hair we lose on a daily basis, during the postpartum period that amount increases significantly. While Polidoro was immersed in the first few months of her daughter’s life, she realised that in this process she was also drawing a line, and through the succession of lines a gesture like writing emerged. Polidoro has thereby created a typographic font that forms an alphabet from this collection of lost hairs.
